The SCHNEEBERGER Absolute Measuring System SAM brings linear guides into the digital world of Industry 4.0. This innovative solution integrates guiding and measuring in a single system, supporting multiple interfaces simultaneously, including BiSS/SSI and analog Sin/Cos. The scale, laser-engraved directly onto the guide rail, enables precise and reliable position measurement with an accuracy of over 2 µm. With a compact sensor measuring only 9.9 x 5.0 x 1.1 mm, SAM fits even small linear guides such as the MINIRAIL size 5. This plug-and-play solution saves time and costs, making it ideal for precise applications in sectors like mechanical engineering and medical technology.

The SAM measuring system offers five interface options: BiSS/SSI, ABZ, UVW, SPI, and analog Sin/Cos interfaces.

The SAM measuring system operates optically. A central illumination LED sensor and two lensless optical encoder windows detect the absolute position using a Pseudo-Random Code (PRC). Additionally, an incremental encoder is used for the interpolation of high-resolution position data.

The SAM measuring system can be integrated into all MINIRAIL sizes and carriage types, ranging from size 5 to 42.
